March is Women’s History Month
Lucy! Fussbudget to Feminist- “Power to My Kind”
In 1980, the National Women’s History Project now known as the National Women’s History Alliance (NWHA) was founded in Santa Rosa by Molly Murphy MacGregor, Mary Ruthsdotter, Maria Cuevas, Paula Hammett, and Bette Morgan to broadcast women’s historical achievements.
In celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the passing of the 19th Amendment in the United States, the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center celebrates the leading lady of Peanuts, Lucy Van Pelt.
In 1987, after being petitioned by NWHP, Congress passed Pub. L. 100-
9 which designated the month of March 1987 as Women’s History Month. Between 1988 and 1994, Congress passed additional resolutions requesting and authorizing the President to proclaim March of each year as Women’s History Month. Since 1988, U.S. presidents have issued annual proclamations designating the month of March as Women’s History Month.
From her earliest moments as #1 fussbudget in the early 1950s to the empowered young lady who embodied the movement toward equality in the 1960s, 1970s, and beyond, there is no mistaking Lucy. Whether she’s sharing sage advice from her psychiatric booth, contemplating against Schroeder’s piano, or running from dog lips, Lucy can be counted as crabby, bossy, or even rude at times. But, within it all, there is a young lady who is confident, compassionate, and ready to tackle anything—literally!

Today they are celebrating the 43rd anniversary of that historical event. From the beginning of its inception the primary goal of Women’s History
The exhibit will run for a full year and features original Peanuts artwork, never-before-seen material from the Museum archives, and much more. Plus, visitors will have a chance to dish their own advice straight from Lucy’s Psychiatric Booth. The exhibit takes place from Sunday March 07, 2020 thru March 15, 2021. The museum is located at 2301 Hardies Way, Santa Rosa, CA. For information go to https://schulzmuseum.org/
Month is to increase consciousness and knowledge of women’s history. The theme for 2020 is, “Valiant Women of the Vote,” honoring the women who have fought for woman’s right to vote in the United States. And continue to fight to ensure voting rights for all.
Santa Rosa Art Center Celebration of 19th Amendment
This year’s celebration has a special meaning; women are celebrating the 100th Year Anniversary of the 19th Amendment, granting women the right to vote across the nation.
The Center founded in 2017 is the anchor for the South of a (SOFA) arts district, providing artists of many experience levels an opportunity to exhibit their work. In February to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the passage
of the 19th Amendment - women’s right to vote in the United States the Art Center has on display of local artists exploring the struggles and the victories of women’s movements.

Congratulations to Lieutenant Shawn Murphy, Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office who was a constant source of support as he represented the Sheriff’s Office at the Kincade Fire Unified Command Center, ensuring operations ran smoothly and helping to coordinate evacuation efforts. And Fire District Chief, Mark Heine for his efforts to keep the Kincade Fire from advancing on Windsor and Larkfield, ensuring the safety of the city of Santa Rosa in the process.
