June is just around the corner, which, of course, means the Farmers Market is here! The Farmers Market, formally the Occidental Bohemian Farmers Market, is my favorite part of summer, and quite possibly of Occidental all together. I love seeing everyone milling about, eating and talking and buying organic vegetables and fruits. I love the music and the pre-teens and the toddlers running under foot. I love it, so so so much. The rst market is on Friday, June 2nd, from 4pm until dusk, and I will be there! They’ll be every Friday until the end of October. This is their 16th year, which is pretty amazing.
On Saturday, June 3rd, from 2 to 4p, join Susan T. Mashiyama, Ed and Justin Coletti, Steve Shain, and David Madgalene and others for Call Down the Angel, presented by The David Randolph New Way Media Festival. Join the performers on a journey through the spiritual wasteland of contemporary America. Enjoy original songs and poems as a tribute to those who created the roots gospel blues music of the South. Plus, it’s free. For more information visit hoodoodog.blogspot.com.
On the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month at 7pm, head to the Occidental Center for the Arts to participate in the OCA Reader’s Theatre Group. It’s
fun way to read short plays and express yourself! Every meeting they read
2 or 3 short plays adapted from literature. The audience pictures the action while listening to the script being read aloud. There are no sets, no costumes, no props, and no memorized lines. Instead of acting it’s all about reading— enabling the audience to visualize the action. For more information, call Judith Reimuller 707-829-2176 or email Joan at joanjustjoan@hotmail.com. They meet in the OCA classroom.
The Occidental Center for the Arts also is home to Prasada, where there are weekly Children’s Art Classes on Wednesdays, from 3:30pm – 5:30pm. The classes are for kids ages 7 to 13, and it costs $20 per class. For more information, call (203) 241-7115. It’s a lot of fun!
