  Fund a Need
Every guest will have the opportunity to support the Pancreatic and Brain Cancer Accelerator Funds during the Spirit of Life® dinner program.
City of Hope research, technology and therapy breakthroughs impact the lives of over 100 million patients each day. City of Hope is also a pioneer and leader in the development of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T immunotherapy, a personalized treatment that uses genetic engineering to train each patient’s immune system to recognize and fight cancer in the same way that it responds to routine infections or the common cold. They were first in human clinical trials for these 20 years ago and today have treated over 1,000 patients with this emerging new therapy.
WHAT DO PANCREATIC AND BRAIN CANCER ACCELERATOR FUNDS DO?
Supporting Accelerator Funds for Pancreatic and Brain Cancer Research is a powerful way to help accelerate the work of physician-scientists at City of Hope, as they focus on eliminating pancreatic and brain cancer. At this critical moment of discovery and innovation, philanthropic investment can help speed the completion of groundbreaking research, expedite clinical trials and the development of new therapies to save the lives of thousands of patients worldwide.
PANCREATIC CANCER RESEARCH ACCELERATOR FUND
Pancreatic cancer is among the deadliest cancers affecting adults in the United States, with a five-year survival rate of just 9%.
In the past 10 years, immunotherapies have produced a sea change in the treatment of blood cancers. Thanks to
breakthrough research now underway at City of Hope, Immunotherapy is now revolutionizing treatment for solid tumors, including pancreatic cancer. City of Hope researchers are now creating the world’s first immunotherapies for pancreatic cancer and other solid tumors. Surgical oncologist Yuman Fong, M.D., and cancer immunotherapy expert Saul Priceman, Ph.D., are investigating new approaches that combine two potent therapies to destroy solid tumors: genetically modified cancer-killing viruses and CAR T cell therapy. Priceman is also advancing City of Hope's first Phase 1 clinical trial using CAR T cell therapy for pancreatic cancer. This research has the potential to transform the standard of care for pancreatic cancer and bring hope to patients facing this devastating disease.
BRAIN CANCER RESEARCH ACCELERATOR FUND
The Research Accelerator Fund in Brain Cancer provides immediate support for translational research and clinical trials. Gifts to this fund provide the directors of research programs with vital resources to propel the most promising new therapies through City of Hope’s expedited research pathway. The Research Accelerator Fund in Brain Cancer empowers investigators like Benham Badie, M.D., in the brain cancer field to move forward with high-potential research without having to wait for traditional government funding sources and can speed potentially lifesaving new treatments through final testing and into clinical trials. Your gift can reduce the time it takes to develop a new brain cancer therapy by months or years, bringing hope to patients who cannot afford to wait.
