 A note from the
2022 Spirit of Life® Honoree
First, let me thank you for being here tonight to support the City of Hope and the National Insurance Industry Council.
Tish and I had the unique experience of doing a behind-the-scenes tour of the City of Hope facilities in Los Angeles. We came away from that tour so impressed with the enthusiasm of the doctors and researchers and the work they are doing to cure both cancer and diabetes.
The passion for their work, and the progress being made, further convinced me that the fundraising effort on their behalf is an extraordinarily worthy cause.
Can you imagine what could happen if the money we raised was the dollar needed to find that cure that saves even one life, and what if that life is someone that is close to any one of us?
I can’t imagine there is anyone here who hasn’t been affected by cancer or diabetes. I know so many who have lost loved ones due to cancer or have struggles with children who have diabetes – the work that the City of Hope is doing to change this is remarkable.
We are all so lucky to be in an industry where we fight like heck to beat each other on the battle field of insurance, but when the chips are down and we need to band together to collectively fight to find a cure for cancer, we can lay our pencils down and do something for the good of society. I hope that this industry will always be that way.
I am honored to be the Spirit of Life® honoree this year and, again, thank you for your generosity and support and for attending the 2022 gala.
With gratitude,
Joel Cavaness
