Economy of Himachal Pradesh
The era of planning in Himachal Pradesh started in 1951 along with the rest of India
with the implementation of the first five-year plan. The First Plan
allocated ₹52.7 million to Himachal Pradesh. More than 50% of this expenditure was
incurred on transport and communication; while the power sector got a share of just
4.6%, though it had steadily increased to 7% by the Third Plan. [49] Expenditure on
agriculture and allied activities increased from 14.4% in the First Plan to 32% in the
Third Plan, showing a progressive decline afterwards from 24% in the Fourth Plan to
less than 10% in the Tenth Plan. Expenditure on energy sector was 24.2% of the total
in the Tenth Plan.
