P. 3

May 15, 16, 17 | Seven Springs Mountain Resort 3
WELCOME!
Welcome to Seven Springs for Gathering United, the largest in-person gathering of the
United Way of Pennsylvania network! We’d like to extend a warm Pennsylvania welcome
to our colleagues joining us from Ohio, West Virginia and Maryland.
The United Way brand finds its strength in being simultaneously internationally-recognized,
and locally-responsive. While markets are segmented by revenue raised, we all share equal
responsibility for the reputation and success of United Way. We hope this gathering is
inspirational, educational, collaborative and re-fueling for the important work you do as
conveners and collaborators, advocates, resource-raisers and game-changers.
The Local United Way’s work is a symbiotic continuum – resource and revenue development
are the necessary fuel for impact projects. Impact projects, and data analytics on the
effect of those projects, build the story of the difference the local United Way is making in
its community, alongside many partners. This story sustains, invigorates and expands the
donor pool and the opportunities for grants and programmatic funding. Revenue and impact
empower United Way’s place of leadership at the intersection of business, government and
nonprofit, working together to drive equitable change. It informs the advocacy we do at a
state and local level for policy change which enhances the impact of local investments.
And, in a world where geographic boundaries are broken down by technology every day, our
success is enhanced and reinforced by our ability to move the needle locally and be good
network citizens, collaborating together and building trust for United Way.
These are the concepts behind the Thriving United Way framework centering many of the
themes which have made United Way an impactful force in communities for more than a
century, and calling us to lean into our common strengths for another century of service.
The sessions at Gathering United will empower you to support learning and exploring how
to diversify revenue and engage younger donors, how to deploy your trust and community
position to be a force for unity in politically divided times, how to enter conversations with
more awareness of power dynamics and their impacts, and how to bridge a variety of gaps,
including by embracing new ways to use technology and data in your work.
Thank you to all the speakers who are sharing their knowledge and expertise. And, thanks to
our sponsors for your support! United Way Worldwide has made a significant sponsorship
in Gather United, totaling $65,000, which allows UWP to reduce the cost of
registration and provide stipends to offset your travel costs to attend. And,
thanks to our sponsors: The Milton Hershey School, Aetna, and UPIC
Solutions, whose support has further offset the costs of conference
expenses for talented speakers and staff travel to for the event.
United at Seven Springs and beyond – we hope it’s the next in
many more opportunities to learn together, play together, and work
together, across Pennsylvania and across the Northeast Region.
