EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE
Dear Members,
Iam fortunate to serve as the Executive Director of our Association. witness the tremendous dedication and unwavering courage of police leaders
across the Commonwealth. Daily, I
Our law enforcement leaders embrace challenges
and hold themselves accountable every day. Our members have continuously
shown that they are compassionate individuals willing to sacrifice their safety
for their communities. Our law enforcement leaders recognize the moral and
professional duty to reflect the values of their communities, and they are proud
and committed to upholding that obligation.
Law enforcement is a noble profession. Our members make their communities
a better place to live, work, and learn. PCPA has endeavored to provide our
members with the daily support, information, resources, and tools to provide
policing services to their communities. Our mission is to promote excellence in
service and expertise in law enforcement and public safety services, to advocate
for Law Enforcement leaders, and to provide innovative programs and training
for our members.
Our legislative efforts, on behalf of the Association, are a vital part of the
Association's activity. The Association provided excellent feedback on
draft legislation to ensure lawmakers took our professional experience and
knowledge into account. This year, we were privileged to testify before the PA
House and Senate on policing issues. We have and will continue to advocate
for law enforcement executives and officers and the adoption and approval
of well-intended and well-constructed legislation crucial to strengthening our
communities and building trust in law enforcement. Our collective efforts reflect
a balanced approach to addressing crime and prioritizing community safety.
The work of PLEAC and our best practices and standards was an Association
priority, and the work of our Commission members was remarkable. The
Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Program addresses 120 standards
and 250 sub-standards that cover all the contemporary issues facing law
enforcement. There are now 177 accredited agencies in Pennsylvania, and an
additional 55 agencies are enrolled. Approximately 70% of Police officers in PA
work for an accredited agency. These agencies are committed to continuous
improvement and providing the most effective services to their respective
communities.
I want to thank our Executive Board and all the members who serve on committees
for our Association. These highly professional men and women represent all
that is great about law enforcement in our state. I would also like to thank the
outstanding staff at PCPA for their incredible dedication and support.
2024 has been an extraordinarily busy and productive year for PCPA. I am
proud of the Association and the work that has been accomplished. We look
forward to the New Year and will continue to meet the new challenges. As the
holiday season approaches, please remember those who have gone before us
and their families and do everything we can to support those who stand beside
us in keeping our communities safe. We wish you and your family good health
and happiness this holiday season and in the coming New Year.
Sincerely,
Scott L. Bohn
