FROM THE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Welcome to A Candlelight Christmas! Forfortyyears,
the Susquehanna Chorale has celebrated the season, lifting hearts and voices to bring beauty and meaning to the audiences who
join us.
Surrounded by the singers, the candles and greens, we hope that you will catch the spirit of love and peace as we sing familiar songs that bring “comfort and joy.” Join with us as we sing the traditional carols, and revel in the joy of people who love to sing together. Truly the sound of human voices combined in song is among the most powerful of musical expressions.
We have had challenging times due to the pandemic. But throughout the last two years, the Chorale
has continued to rehearse and perform safely, reaching out to audiences digitally and via outdoor performances. This weekend,
we celebrate the joy of singing together, in person, for our very special audiences. There is nothing that can substitute for a live performance!
Our concerts focus on the spiritual meaning of Christmas, presented in carols and motets that tell the Christmas story. We are delighted to present the premiere of “Let
the Stable StillAstonish,” written for us for our fortieth anniversary. This piece
has become
a favorite
for us, as it
encapsulates the true meaning of the season. On a lighter note, we will sing about timeless traditions of the season, including the figgy pudding and the fattened goose. The evening will conclude, as always, with our traditional setting of “Silent Night.”
Thank you for being with us tonight. It is our hope that you will embrace and share the spirit of the season, and that the coming year brings peace, joy, and love to you and yours.
Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!
Linda Tedford
