PA CHIEFS OF POLICE ASSOCIATION
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Last year, past President David Splain started his message out by
saying, "We all celebrated the holiday season, and the calendar
turned to a new year with the offer of hope and prosperity. But
those thoughts ground to a halt just two days into 2023 with the
murder of a western Pennsylvania Police Chief." Well, it's almost two
months into 2024 and we read about police officers being shot doing
their jobs protecting their communities. When will all this stop?
As 2024 comes in, law enforcement agencies around the country are
shortstaffed and experiencing a rise in crimes that threaten the safety
and security of our communities.
Moreover, growing isolationism and global events in the Middle East
and Ukraine have intensified the potential for danger and conflict at our
universities and houses of worship. Governmental agencies, courts at all
levels and the nations Capital all have targeted violence.
The need to renew and enhance trust and prospect with stakeholders
and law enforcement partners has never been greater.
Admittedly, it has never been tougher to be a cop in today's world. Stay
safe and thank you for all you do.
Sincerely,
Chief Royce Engler
Wright Township Police
Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association President
