During the COVID-19 pandemic, bringing communities together in-person for important
public engagement interactions became challenging. In response to imposed restrictions,
AECOM created a virtual meeting platform called aecomviz. This virtual platform provides
an opportunity to meet the community virtually without sacrificing the value of the
engagement process. While satisfying the requirements of the public process, aecomviz
allows for a customizable engagement opportunity that can incorporate unique branding,
language access, interactivity, live chat support and multi-media content. It also can
manage complex information without the need for full-time facilitation, making the platform
more scalable for limited budgets. This technology has allowed AECOM to be more
innovative and provide a broader range of opportunities for equitable engagement. The
platform was successfully used in Pennsylvania for the I-95 Central Access Philadelphia
Planning Study and the I-95 Girard Avenue Interchange Reconstruction Project.
