Project Name: SR 4008 Five Points Roundabout
Firm: Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson, Inc.
Owner: PennDOT District 1-0
Key Partners: American Geotechnical & Environmental Services, Inc.; Monaloh
Basin Engineers, Inc.
PennDOT District 1-0 engaged JMT to resolve safety concerns at a previously dangerous
location. The Five Points Roundabout project included improvements at the intersection
of Flower Road, Oliver Road and Hamot Road in Summit Township, Erie County. The
roundabout solution combined two nearby unsignalized intersections with a crash
frequency higher than the statewide average and included improved safety measures.
These routes serve as a critical connection to the southern suburbs of Erie to Interstate
90 and State Route 19. As the prime consultant, the JMT team delivered the district’s first
five-leg roundabout, with the successful bid being lower than the engineer’s estimate, as
well as J.C. Lee Construction and Supply Company accomplishing an early construction
completion.
