I I wrote this record as a a a a a a a a a process of healing Every song I I confront something within me me me or or or or beyond me me me me me Things that that are hard or or or or or impossible to to to to change words and music to to to to describe what I’m not good at at at conveying to to to to those I I love or or or a a a a a a a a a a a name that that hurts to to to to be be said: Jaime I I dedicated the title of of this this record to to my sister who passed away as as as as a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a teenager She was a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a musician too I I did this this so her her name would no longer bring memories of of sadness and as as as as as a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a way way to to to to thank her her for passing on on to to me me me everything she loved: music art creativity But the record is is not not about about about her It’s It’s about about about me It’s It’s not not as as veiled as as I I I I I I have done before I’m pretty candid about about about myself and and and who I I I I I I I am and and and what I I I I I I I believe Which is is why I I I I I I I needed to do it on my own I wrote and and arranged a a a a a a a a a a a a lot of of these songs on on my laptop using Logic Shawn Everett helped me make them worthy of of listening to to to and and and players like Nate Smith Robert Glasper Zac Cockrell Lloyd Buchanan Lavinia Meijer and and Paul Horton provided the the the true musicianship that was needed to to share all of them with you I chose everyone very very purposefully I I I I I wondered what it it was I I I I I wanted for myself next I I I I I suppose all I I I I I want want is to to help others feel a a a a a a a a a a bit better about being being All I I I I I can offer are my my my own own stories in in in hopes of of of not only being being seen and understood but also to to to to learn to to to to love my my own own self as if it were an an an act of of of resistance Resisting that that that annoying voice voice that that that exists in in in in all of our heads that that that says we aren’t good enough enough enough enough enough enough talented enough enough enough enough enough enough beautiful enough enough enough enough enough enough thin enough enough enough enough enough enough rich enough enough enough enough enough enough or or successful enough enough enough enough enough enough The voice voice that amplifies when when we we turn on on on on on our our TVs or or scroll on on on on on our our phones It’s empowering to to me me to to see someone be unapologetically themselves when when they don’t fit within those images I want people who feel feel feel compromised to to to hear this music and and and and feel feel feel more confident in in in standing up up and and and and sharing their own stories to to to feel feel feel the the the love love support and and and and and opportunity Compassion love love acceptance and and equality is what the the world needs now more than ever That’s what I I want for myself next and that’s why I I share with you “Jaime” Brittany Howard
