 Cabinet of Curiosities
ANTIQUE CHELSEA SHIP CLOCKS The one American maker of ship's clocks that stands above the rest. The firm actually began in 1884 as the Boston Clock Company. By 1905, Chelsea had established itself as the premium sup- plier of ship's clocks. They filed a patent in 1911 for its ship's bell clock, a touchstone for the firm. In 1936, Admiral Byrd extended his thanks to Chelsea clocks, that accompanied him to the South Pole. During WWII, Chelsea's production soared, as virtually every naval vessel carried these clocks. Here is an array of Chelsea's finest ship's bell clocks. All utilize high precision movements featuring more than 300 parts. All have been tested and, where needed, fully reconditioned.
