Medium Close Up (MCU)
The medium close-up frames the character from roughly the chest up. It typically shows the face, but still keeps the character somewhat distant.
Close Up (CU)
Fill the frame with a part of your character, normally this is the face. Use this when you want to reveal a characters emotions and reactions.
