 Kawa and tikanga
Family Works embrace Māori Kawa (protocols) and Tikanga (customs and values).
When conducting Māori cultural practices on Family Works premises, teams may use a mihi (formal address to gathering) and/or pōwhiri (formal process of welcome) when welcoming new staff. To ensure clarity of expectations, teams, with agreement from team members, should outline a ‘local’ protocol that includes provision, where appropriate, for Māori protocols, such as mihi, pōwhiri and koha (donation or gift). The Family Works’ Roopu will work with the Family Works Leadership team to develop/peer review these to ensure local needs are recognised and met.
