Upper and Lower-level Decks/Stairs

• Decks must not exceed 14’ extension from house wall
• Decks must be set in 2’ from adjoining units, and 1’ from “open” end
• Deck railings must be simple, vertical pickets
• Decks may have 45 or 90 degree angles
• All interior and exterior homes are permitted to have steps on their decks

with the following stipulations:
Stairs must be set in 2’ from adjoining properties, and 1’ from “open” end, and stair railing must match deck

Applicants are reminded to comply with all applicable Fairfax County codes for railings and construction techniques
