Smarter Geotechnics
for a Better Railway
As the changes in weather patterns become more apparent, maintaining and renewing earthworks and geotechnical assets while avoiding disruption to rail operations becomes ever more challenging.
BAM Ritchies are embracing these challenges. From the provision of digital ground investigation through to bespoke optimal geotechnical solutions, self-delivery of its ground engineering disciplines provides safe, right first time, sustainable success within the tightly constrained and controlled rail environment. Below are some of the ways BAM Ritchies are thinking differently to deliver better outcomes.
Digital, cost-effective Ground investigations
Understanding and identification of the geological make up of the ground is critical to the right design solution. We overcome access challenges in hard to reach spots by using our modular rigs and slope climbing rigs
The digital approach to ground investigation enables us to capture 100% of data and validate this at the work location. The data is immediately shared, enabling informed decisions to be made as the GI progresses making it an agile investigation.
Delivering the GI with an understanding of the geotechnical solution enables site trials to be included within the GI works and ensures that the GI investment delivers on the answers that are asked of the ground from the geotechnical design.
Safe and Sustainable solutions
BAM is amongst the first to implement a policy to eradicate the use of vibrating hand-tools on its sites, as opposed to simply limiting exposure. Traditional hand- held tools are being replaced with better, safer equipment and methods to proactively mitigate the risks of Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome.
Improving the safety of geotechnical works is something that BAM Ritchies has championed for many years, building and using mechanised drilling tools, rope access rigs and miniature drill rigs that enable mechanised drilling to be carried out safely.
Digital construction Planning – “Build it Before We Build it”
Digital construction helps communicate the intentions of the project and provides visual aids for the discussion of the most optimum solution where all parties feel comfortable moving forward with an agreed approach.
Digital 3D models have been utilised for project progress reporting and clash detection to help model the best outcome for a project. Clash detection models have been used to resolve soil nail and rock dowels clashes, culvert clashes, ground obstructions, plant operations and Any Line Open (ALO) checks. Digital rehearsals allow risk to be reduced, opportunities to be maximised and methodologies to be proven.
Rising to the challenge
BAM Ritchies develop equipment and techniques to support innovation and more efficient design solutions. With a willingness to invest in our people and equipment and embrace new technologies for better outcomes.
There are no other Ground Engineering and Geotechnical contractors in the market place that can offer such a specialised, rounded and integrated service. No others that can match our standards and accreditations. We are the digital leader in Ground and Geotechnical Engineering.
We are BAM Ritchies and we deliver exceptional geotechnical infrastructure.
