Drallim Industries
Drallim Industries are now in their 66th year and to date have numerous innovations and ongoing projects supplying systems and equipment to the marine industry.
Below is a case study for large lashings that were supplied to the Queen Elizabeth class aircraft carrier. This showcases our capabilities as designers and suppliers of bespoke Lashings and restraints, aided by our in-house test facilities in our newly built facility in St. Leonards on Sea, East Sussex.
Cargo Aids is a division of Drallim Industries that already has a range of proven lashings & restraints, used extensively within the MoD as well as many overseas Navies to secure multi-million-pound aircraft. We have the knowledge and design capability to create new lashing restraints that could be used for such things as tenders on board Super Yachts, ships, boats and Frigates. One of our smaller range of lashing restraints, the MC1 is already being used on many Super yachts to tiedown their valuable helicopters. The Drallim Cargo Aids division has been a trusted name in the industry since 1959 with a 65-year pedigree.
We also supply such items as door barrier nets, commonly used for MRO operations on commercial Aircraft and trains both above and below ground. We have manufactured a range of commercial products for securing gas bottles to include signage in areas where access and safety are a factor.
Drallim have been manufacturing Rotary Selector Valve’s since 1958 and these have been used on board ships in the past to control systems. In years gone by they have also been used on tanks, submarines and even on Concorde. Their diversity and quality are often sought after in places such as nuclear power stations, Oil and gas applications and high integrity situations. Life expectancy even without servicing has been known be more than 40 years, still maintaining and guaranteeing zero cross port leakage.
CASE STUDy For ThE DmrT (Deployable mission rehearsal Trainer)

The DMRT restraint strap was designed to restrain an 8-tonne shipping container that houses the Lockheed Martin’s Deployable Mission Rehearsal Trainer (DMRT) on-board the new QE Class aircraft carriers. The containers are located on the hanger deck on a specially designed shelf, some 7 metres up. These are initially held in place with locking twist bolts that can theoretically fail under certain shock loadings, for example, if the carrier came under attack and were struck this could cause the containers original mountings to shear, causing the DMRT to fall from the shelf; hence the need for a supplement restraint system.
SolUTion
The DMRT restraint strap is installed as a set of 7 straps which make up a redundancy system to protect personnel and equipment should the primary restraints holding the DMRT unit in place, fail.
The strap is made up of 2 swivelling bracket assemblies mounted to the ship and a fixed length of webbing tensioned with spacers. Each strap is rated at 20,000kg (ultimate), a minimum of 5 of which will be in contact with the load at any time, thus providing a resultant overall system rating of 100,000kg (ultimate).
