About Preheat Engineering Ltd
We’ve been manufacturing engine and storage tank heaters, in the UK since 1954. Simon Gristwood became MD in 2015, following the retirement of the founders – Brian Taylor and Mark Harrison. The company recently moved to Deseronto Trading Estate in Langley to allow for expansion. Today, Preheat Engineering is a leading supplier of engine preheaters and fuel storage heating solutions to a range of maintenance and servicing companies operating in the Genset, Fire Safety, Fuel Storage, FM, Construction and marine markets. The company prides itself around quality products manufactured to last, which provide value for money to all our customers. Our Peregrine and Falcon range of heaters is well established with customers through the UK and Europe.
How digital thermostats are turning up the heat
Voices within the industry have recognized, for some time, that traditional thermostats are not well-suited to engines. The constant vibrations of a running engines effectively shake and unsettle the contacts, rattling and juddering components, leading to broken circuits and untimely failures. It’s a long-time problem that’s been waiting to get fixed but is now a reality for Preheat Engineering.
These new thermostats are solid state devices that do not contain any parts sensitive to vibration. They consist of electronic components sited on a motherboard and insulated with acoustic polymer, it makes them more durable when mounted on engines of any form. It’s a contrast to mechanical thermostats, which use two pieces of different metals bolted together which are sensitive to vibration, which tends to shorten their lifespan.
The benefits
Benefits of solid-state thermostat over traditional versions :
1. Enhanced Reliability: Solid state thermostats eliminate the mechanical wear and tear associated with traditional thermostats. Their reliability and longevity is better.
2. Improved Precision: These thermostats offer highly accurate temperature control, ensuring that engines are heated to the exact required temperature, thereby optimising performance and reducing unnecessary energy consumption.
3. Energy Efficiency: With better precision comes enhanced energy efficiency. Solid-state thermostats reduce the risk of overheating and the corresponding waste of energy, leading to lower operational costs and a smaller environmental footprint.
4. Durability: Built to withstand extreme temperatures and conditions, solid-state thermostats offer durability in challenging environments where engine reliability is paramount.
