New Generator Sets For Bitburger Brewery
Since 2014, Bitburger Braugruppe has a CHP plant with two MWM gas generator sets at its headquarters in the Eifel region in Germany. Last year, following more than 60,000 hours of operation, the two MWM TCG 2020 V20 were replaced with new-generation TCG 3020 V20 engines.
The Bitburger Braugruppe is a family business. Now in its seventh generation of ownership, it employs around 1,600 people and owns the Bitburger, König Pilsener, Köstritzer, Licher, Königsbacher and Nette brands. Bitburger Braugruppe is one of the 40 largest brewery groups in the world. The company relies on MWM gas gensets for its energy supply.
The first generator set was replaced in the spring of 2024, and the second in November. In order not to disrupt operations, especially during the summer months when beer sales are higher, the brewery group decided to replace the two generator sets at different times.
To meet current and future emission requirements, the new MWM gensets have been fitted with customized SCR catalytic converter pre-fitting solutions.
The new generation of engines from MWM has long service intervals of up to 80,000 operating hours. They can already run on natural gas with a hydrogen admixture of up to 25 vol%. The company also offers MWM 25H2 retrofit kits.
The two new TCG 3020 V20 gensets, each with an electrical output of 2,000 kW and a thermal output of 2,066 kW, have an electrical efficiency of 43.2% and a thermal efficiency of 44.6%, giving an overall efficiency of 87.8%.
