WHY YOUR SUPPORT IS IMPORTANT
The Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) is a Federal housing assistance program that provides tax incentives to owners of affordable housing. The program does not provide direct assistance to renters and is strictly used to finance the construction of rental properties. The rental properties are of very high quality and are often mistaken for luxury apartment communities.
The Texas Department of Housing & Community Affairs (TDHCA), administers this highly competitive program by using a scoring system that requires local support. Due to the competitive nature of the program, it is highly unlikely for projects to receive a tax credit allocation without a letter of support from the State Representative. A support letter is worth 8 points under current TDHCA guidelines.
If a project in Amarillo fails to receive a letter of support from a State Representative, it will be at a point disadvantage and a project in Lubbock or Wolfforth will receive the tax credit allocation. Representative Burrows and the Cities of Lubbock and Wolfforth support Tax Credit developments.
