  Farming
ƒ Development of a unique treatment methodology in order to reduce reliance on antibiotics.
ƒ Development of a unique feeding methodology to improve the animal’s welfare and performance during its transitioning period.
ƒ Development of novel bedding methodology to improve welfare and performance KPI’s of animals.
ƒ Investigating diet on cattle and resultant meat quality; scientific measurements on effects on changes to food source on behaviour etc.
ƒ Complying and adaption to new legislation; inclusive of treatment of wildlife or chemicals that are allowed to be used. Investigating alternative chemicals or materials and integrating them with existing processes.
ƒ Making more products more durable, effective, and improving performance: improving environmental impact
– reducing material usage, waste emissions, energy consumption.
Horticulture
ƒ Improving yield, quality, disease resistance, shelf life of crops
ƒ Growing out of season to improve availability of crops through the year
ƒ Reducing chemical usage - e.g. replacing with biological control methods and maintaining same level of effectiveness
ƒ Reducing peat usage - e.g. how to maintain same yield, quality of crops when changing growing medium, will this effect watering rates etc?
ƒ Experimenting with new seed/crop varieties
Livestock
ƒ Reducing antibiotic usage in livestock – can you still maintain low levels
of disease without the need for antibiotics? E.g. trialling additives in feed rations
ƒ Appreciable improvements to animal productivity – Feed conversion ratios, daily live weight gains etc
ƒ Improving animal welfare – reducing disease rates and stress, improving house conditions etc
