Case Study
Our client, a successful Hydrogen Fuel Cell company had a ten-year-old UK Patent and a reluctance to pursue further IP protection. While the company regularly claimed for R&D credits, income from the patented invention was too low for a Patent Box claim to be worthwhile.
We worked with the client to explain the value of further protection and carried out an IP health check which discovered multiple trade secrets, two registerable trademarks, 5 registerable designs and valuable inventions.
We also carried out novelty searches for some of their most advanced secret prototypes, all were new, but only two were deemed to be patentable. We subsequently carried out Patent Landscapes on these two innovations and discovered that both were at an early stage of a trend in this market.
As a result of this, two patent applications are in preparation, one being rapidly prosecuted at the UKIPO using the Green Channel, as it will be included in a new version of their highest selling device.
Our client is now aiming to utilise its expanding IP base, raising finance based on its IP as an alternative to diluting shares or a bank loan.
