ON-CAMPUS SUPPORT
Engineering schools have many groups that sup- port women and minorities in their pursuit of an engineering degree. Here are some examples:
American Indian Science & Engineering Society (AISES) builds community while bridging science and technology with traditional Native values. Opportunities for American Indians and Native Alaskans to pursue studies in science, engineering, and other arenas.
Great Minds in STEM (GMIS) offers scholar- ships and through its college captains program reaches out into local communities to attract minorities to engineering.
National Organization for Gay and Lesbian Scientists and Technical Professionals (NOGLSTP) provides education, advocacy, pro- fessional development, and peer support for both students and faculty.
National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)
helps students excel academically, succeed pro- fessionally, and positively impact the community through NSBE-sponsored career fairs and other events.
Society of Advancing Chicanos and Native Americans in Sciences (SACNAS) offers social and technical events that enhance and realize the potential of Hispanics in engineering, math, and science.
Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) offers social and technical events that promote and enhance the potential of Hispanics in engineering, math, and science.
Society of Women Engineers (SWE) awards scholarships, offers competitions and job and
internship searchresources, and runs an annual awards ceremony.
Women Engineers Rise (WERise) provides social connection, mentoring, advising, and tutoring for women in science and engineering. Programs include academic support, Bridge, the WiSE Conference, and the Pre-Major and Pre-Professional programs.
Women in STEM (WiSTEM) empowers and encourages high school girls through a wide variety of programs to be a part of the movement to increase female representation in STEM.
