DÜNYANIN BAHARAT BAHÇESİ ZANZİBAR
Zanzibar dünyanın en güzel ve en zengin adalarından biri. Tarihi ve kültür zenginliği olduğu kadar doğal zenginliği de çok fazla. El değmemiş doğası içinde çeşit çeşit baharat- lar yetiştiriliyor. İnsan bu adada gezerken baharat kokuları içinde, leziz yemekler tadarak geziyor.
Zanzibar, tarihten bu yana sahip olduğu iklimi ve verimli toprakları sayesinde her çeşit tropikal meyvelerin yetişme- sine imkan tanısa da baharatların da adresi olmuş. Bugünde hâlâ dünyanın en iyi baharatları burada yetiştiriliyor. Asırlar- dır yetiştirilen bu baharatlar sayesinde tüm dünyanın gözü ve ilgisi bu adada olmuş. Bugün de dünyanın en iyi şefleri, restoranları hâlâ bu adadan baharatlarını temin etmekte.
Durum böyle olunca biz de harika bir baharat turuna çıkı- yoruz. Ormanların içinde, engin bir baharat bahçesi karşılı- yor bizi. Her türlü baharatın yetiştirildiği ağaçları ve bitkileri görünce şaşkınlığımızı gizleyemiyoruz. Karanfil ağacı çok ilginç geldi bana. Kocaman bir ağacın dallarında aynı çiçek gibi yetişen karanfiller koparılıp kurutulup satılıyormuş. Dünyanın en iyi karanfillerinin adresi Zanzibar’mış.
En sevdiğim bitkilerden biri de limon otu. ‘Lemongrass’ olarak bilinen bu güzel ot öyle güzel öyle güzel kokuyor ki otu koparan rehberimiz bize koklatınca çok mutlu olduk. Özellikle burada sivrisinekleri kovmak için yakılarak kulla- nılıyormuş.
Dünyanın en iyi vanilyalarının da yetiştirildiği ada bu- rasıymış. Dünyanın en pahalı ikinci baharatı olan vanilya burada en kalitelisine sahipmiş. Bir sarmaşık gibi büyüyen vanilya mükemmel kokuyor.
Tarçın, zencefil, nutmeg, karabiber, köri ve daha aklıma gelmeyen bir çok baharat burada nasıl yetiştiriliyor, hepsi gelen turistlere gösteriliyor. Ve turun en sonunda da bu baharatların da satışı yapılıyor. Biz bol bol bu baharatlardan almayı ihmal etmiyoruz.
ZANZIBAR IS THE SPICE GARDEN OF THE WORLD
Zanzibar is one of the most beautiful and richest islands in the world. It boasts both the historical and cultural rich- ness as well as the immense natural wealth. In its pristine nature is cultivated assorted spices. While people are wandering on this island, they taste delicious food by in- haling spice scent.
Zanzibar has been the address of the spices as it has been able to grow all kinds of tropical fruits thanks to its climate and fertile soil. Today, the world’s best spices are still grown here. Thanks to these spices that have been grown for centuries, this island has been at the center of the attention of the whole world. Today, the best chefs in the world still provide their spices from this island.
As is the case we’re going on a great spice tour. There has been an extensive spice garden in the forests in front of us. We cannot help but get astonished when we see the trees and plants where all kinds of spices are grown. The clove tree is very interesting to me. Growing like a flow- er in the branches of a large tree, the carnations were plucked, dried and sold. Zanzibar was the address for the world’s best carnations.
One of my favorite plants is lemongrass. This beautiful herb known as Lemongrass smells so good that we were very happy when our guide had us sniffed at it. It was used by setting on fire especially to ward off mosquitoes.
This is the island where the world’s best vanilla is grown. Vanilla, the second most expensive spice in the world, has been grown with the best quality here. Vanilla grows like a vine and smells perfectly.
Cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, black pepper, curry, and many more spices that don’t come to my mind are all shown to tourists, including how they grow. And at the end of the tour these spices are also sold. We buy plenty of these spices.
