Viyana, 1938: Naziler şehri kuşattığında Sigmund Freud’a ülke- den çıkış vizesi ve yanında götüreceği kişilerin bir liste-
sini yapma şansı verilir. Freud doktorunu, hizmetçilerini,
onların ailelerini, baldızını, hatta köpeğini seçmesine
rağmen kız kardeşlerini arkasında bırakır. Ağabeyleri ha- yatının geri kalanını Londra’da geçirirken dört kız kardeş Terezín’deki toplama kampına götürülürler.

Naturalizm akımının kurucuları arasında sayılan Emile Zola’nın anlatımındaki sadeliği ve akıcılığı ile içerisine rahatlıkla girebildiğimiz romanda Zola, okurunu usta- lıkla kullandığı uzun betimlemeleri sayesinde 19. yüzyıl Paris’inin sokaklarında geziniyormuş gibi hissettiriyor. Karakterlerin fiziksel ve ruhsal acılarını okura geçirebil- me başarısını bu romanda da sergileyebilen Zola bunu birbirinden farklı karakterlerin üzerinden yapıyor.

Vienna, 1938: With the Nazis closing in, Sigmund Freud is granted an exit visa and allowed to list the names of people to take with him. He lists his doctor and maids, his dog and his wife’s sister, but he doesn’t list any of his own sisters. The four Freud sisters are shuttled to the Terezín concentration camp, while their brother lives out his last days in London.
How will Freud’s choice shape the fate of his sisters?

Une page d’amour | Emile Zola
Emile Zola, one of the most powerful representatives of French literature, builds the fiction of Une Page d’amour (A Page of Love), one of his most significant works, on love, lust, mother- hood and jealousy. In the novel that allows you to enter the high society life of Parisian families, Zola masterfully describes the inner world and character structures of people, while convey- ing the different social circles living in Paris.
While Zola shows the limits of the love and lust through the for- bidden love of Helene, a young a beautiful widow that lives with her sick child and her neighbor Henry, a rich and married doctor. On the other hand, Zola shows the moral status and inner world of the high society in
France at that period.
Emile Zola, who is one of the founders of the Nat- uralism, allows us to experience the novel with its simplicity and fluency in its narrative. Zola makes us feel like we are wandering in the streets of 19th century in Paris thank to the long depictions. Zola, who is successful to make the readers feel the mental and physical pain of the characters, can do this through different characters.
In the novel, which has a crowded cadre of characters, Zola suc- cessfully reflects the psychological and social situation of the characters with the help of the dialogs. Zola makes successful transitions from the empty but pleasure-seeking life of high so- ciety, to the inner world of a little girl; from a mother that is mixed up between her sick girl and her forbidden love to the simple lives of local house maids; the novel is able to maintain its strong place among the classics even centuries after it was written.
