 KIDNEY DISEASE
WHY DIET IS INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT
THE FOCUS ON PROTEIN
What your pets eat can cause, prevent, or aid in kidney disease symptoms. Protein of particular concern, since it creates a high amount of nitrogen that can further stress the kidneys. Poor-quality proteins and kibble are not easily digested, contain very low moisture, and create kidney strain.
WE USE THE RIGHT COMBINATION
Many diets, especially raw diets, are high in protein but lacking adequate fats. In the wild, prey typically contains 30% fat on an as fed basis. Fat should be the primary source of energy, while proteins provide the raw materials for making hormones, muscle, enzymes, and other essential biological equipment. The byproduct of fat metabolism is water, which will not stress the kidneys
with waste removal. If there is not enough fat in the diet, cells will be forced to use protein for energy. Metabolizing protein produces urea, sulfur, and phosphorus; these must be eliminated through the kidneys, causing them strain. Urea in the blood acts as a natural diuretic, and can cause dehydration, and calcium de ciency.
