streets as crowds applauded their arrival. Their presence was clearly appreciated, just as it had been 32 years earlier.
During their time in Mexico, the Israeli team engaged in e orts to nd trapped survivors and locate missing people. The team also surveyed 158 buildings including hospitals, schools, kindergartens, and government o ces to nd whether they remained structurally sound after the quake - vital work to ensure no more lives were lost from building collapses.
When the Israeli team returned to Israel they were welcomed with a ceremony. Netanyahu told the soldiers they were “the long arm of Israel, the long humanitarian arm that reaches around the world, across thousands of kilometers, and you show the true face of the State of Israel.”
Holding back tears, the Mexican Ambassador also spoke, saying, “On behalf of the people of Mexico, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. With your hard and tireless work, with your dedication,
with your great accomplishments, but also with your generosity, with your smiles, with your kindness, you conquered the heart of Mexico. You conquered the heart of the Mexican people.”
