 reference the Se’Mag, his writings on negative commandments (mitzvah    וניברבו ז"נק ת"ל ג"מסב ןייעו 'וגו חרקכ היהי אל רמאנש
 #157) and in Rabbeinu Yonah, section #58.  Their conclusions are that
 this sin is an unqualified Lav.  Please see the Sefer HaMitzvot (the eighth    ןייעו רומג ואל אוהש םהירבדמ עמשמ ח"נ רמאמב הנוי

 Understand that this Lav applies to both Lashon Hara and Rechilut even    ןיבו וינפב ןיבו תמא לע 'יפאו תוליכרב ןיבו ר"השלב ןיב
 if the remarks are true and are made in the presence of the person who is
 the subject of these remarks or even in his absence.  It is possible that this    הז ואל ךייש לבקמה לע םגד רשפאו ,רפסמהלו וינפב אלש
 Lav also applies to the person who listens to these remarks.   For if the    ותוארהל הז רובע רפסמהל םימעזנ םינפ הארמ היה וליאד
 listener would have frowned when the speaker was making his remarks or
 indicated he wanted no part of the speaker’s Lashon Hara, the controversy   .תקולחמה עקשנ היה אליממ ולש ר"השלב הצור וניאש
 could have stopped right  there.

 not oppress your fellow Jew.”  The Gemara Babba Metziah (58b)   ַ  ָ  ְ  ְ  ַ  ְ  ֶ  ְ
 teaches  that  this  pasuk  in  the Torah  is  referring  to  verbal  abuse    תאנוֹאבּ  ירֵיאדּ  "וֹתיִמֲע  תא  שׁיִא  וּנוֹת  אלֹ"דּ  )ז"י  ה"כ

 Be’er Mayim Chayim
 (L13)    when  people  degrade  their  fellow  Jew:  The  Mishnah   םייח םימ ראב
 in Gemara Babba Metziah (58b) teaches that just as there is monetary    םגפב וא םינושארה וישעמב 'וכו הברה םימעפו )גי(
 oppression (egs., overcharging a sale), so too there is verbal oppression.  If
 someone is a Ba'al Teshuvah, one should not say to him “Remember what    םשכ הנשמב )ב"ע ח"נ ףד( מ"בב אתיאדכ .'וכו החפשמה
