publication of the new guide (2022), a total of 21 new species and subspecies have
been added to the butterflies of Israel, for 10 species and subspecies the scientific
names have been updated.
This guide is printed in a limited edition to allow close monitoring of the changes
taking place in the world of butterflies. We will print new and updated editions in
the coming years while introducing the latest changes. Readers are asked to report
changes in observations to the author, his representatives, and / or the Israeli Lepi-
dopterist’s Society at <parpar4u@gmail.com> and are also invited to report it in the "I
saw a butterfly" application. We encourage butterfly enthusiasts to join the "National
Butterfly Monitoring Program" in <bmsisrael@gmail.com>; This is the largest citizen
science project in the country today and it helps to understand the changes in but-
terfly populations in Israel.
* Extreme synoptic weather systems occurring in our Anthropocene epoch may pre-
cede or delay the flight periods; thus, a particularly short winter in the years 2009-10
caused a two-month advance in the appearance of Allancastria cerisyi in NW Israel.
