officers heard loud reports of gunfire and proceeded toward that location. The officers continued to monitor the radio and heard a shots fired call come over the zone as they arrived on scene. Once on scene, the officers located a male victim with a gunshot wound to his lower left leg. The male victim was losing copious amounts of blood. Officer Zizumbo assessed the victim’s injury and utilized his LEMART training to apply a tourniquet to stop the blood flow. Officer Hermosillo, who did not want to soil a fresh pair of work pants, gave instruction to Zizumbo, and the victim was stabilized until EMS finally arrived on scene and transported the victim to the hospital.

On April 24, at 23:34 hours, PPO Zizumbo and his FTO Her- mosillo were on patrol. This was PPO Zizumbo’s first night on the job. Zizumbo anxiously awaited his first in-progress call while Hermosillo recounted tales of “when the job was fun and shit you can’t do anymore.” At the location of 4103 N.
