Remembering Officer Alex Valadez
The family of Officer Alejandro “Alex” Valadez joined with the Chicago Police Department family to honor Valadez 12 years to the day after he was killed in the line of duty.
On June 1, those who knew Valadez best, along with many officers who only know his story, gathered at the Gold Star Families Memorial and Park on the lakefront for a tribute to the fallen officer. Valadez was only 27, just three years on the job, when he and his partner responded to a shots fired call. While they were investigating, more shots rang out and Vala- dez was fatally wounded.
A scholarship in Valadez’s name has been established at Western Illinois University.
