 them in the area of 44th Street and Ashland Avenue.
As Officers Ryan and Augle drove eastbound on 43rd Street, a second vehicle came up from behind and opened fire. The vehicle then pulled up alongside the
officers’ car and continued to shoot at them.
Although both Officers Ryan and Augle were struck, they returned fire. The vehicle then sped off. They radi- oed for help and were transported to the hospital. Of- ficer Ryan was struck four times and Officer Leo Augle was struck once in the cowardly ambush. Eventually, two offenders were placed in custody and a warrant was
issued for the third.
