Fifth District Hoops
The second annual Bauer Cup 16-inch softball tournament took place on a beautiful September Saturday with various Chi- cago police districts and neighboring agencies taking part in the event to benefit the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation. In addition to Commander Paul Bauer, the tournament — won by Rosemont’s public safety team — also honored Officers Samuel Jimenez, Eduardo Marmolejo and Conrad Gary. Several players wore shirts featuring the fallen officers’ names.
12th District officers get in the game
In the 12th District, a pair of officers invited by local kids to join in a basketball game did just that and more. The officers pitched in to buy a new net for their hoop and brought the chil- dren two new basketballs to add to the fun.
Bauer Cup
Being aware of your surroundings is part of life for a police officer, so it’s no surprise that officers in the Fifth District pur- chased and assembled new basketball equipment for a group of youngsters in the neighborhood. All of this followed the officers noticing the broken old hoop that the group had been using. The gesture opened the door for a new relationship between the officers and these young men.
