The support from Chicago Gearheads is never idle
A few weeks ago, Rabbi Moshe Wolf and I blessed vintage cars belonging to members of the Chi- cago Gearheads, a CPD car enthusiast club.
There were cars older than me (but none older than oshe and all of them were in far better shape than both of us. Despite the forecasted rain, Mother Nature provid- ed a beautiful morning.
Afterward, the group stopped by CPD hero Jim Mullen’s house for a visit. Thank you, Chicago Gearheads, for your con- stant support of our wor. app and safe motorin
Mother Nature also came through for us last month at the annual outdoor Father’s Day Mass. Again, despite the predicted storms, we enjoyed dry weather and a great crowd for a Mass honoring all the CPD dads, living and deceased.
Thank you to Nonno Pino’s in Edison Park for hosting a 20 percent give-back event in June, contributing to the mission of the Police Chaplains Ministry. They hosted us not one night, not two nihts ut three nihts nd than ou to all who came out to enjoy a great meal and support a worthwhile cause, which netted us $1,500.
The restaurant owner told me that they had never felt safer than during those nights, when the place was filled with police officers, on duty and off. What a generous show of support for our vital work from you and our hosts there. When looking for a very nice place to eat in Edison Park, be sure to visit this Italian kitchen on Northwest Highway.
During our usual Wednesday over- night in the districts, Chaplain Bob Montelongo and I ran into Detective Dan Fava from Area South, at the scene of a major incident. Left, you’ll see us getting doused with rain to pose for a quick picture on June 26.

We got mail: Here are excerpts from a note written by Brittni, a CPD officer who is currently serving overseas as a military re- servist. She recently received one of our care packages, sent in conjunction with the good folks at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church/School.
Brittni writes: “I just received your care package. How nice to hear from the Chaplains Section and the kids at St. Francis Bor- gia School. I read every one of the kids’ notes, and hung some on the wall in my work area. Many of the kids’ notes made me laugh; others made me tear up. I’m missing home, but hearing from folks in Chicago makes this all worth it. Thank you for ev- erything you sent in the care package. I’ve been with CPD for three years and I can’t wait to get back to work. I miss my co- workers.”
Finally, congratulations to .O. ric avis our new- est St. Jude League chaplain, on the occasion of conducting his first St. Jude wake service.

And so are you, in your daily work.
May God continue to bless you and keep you safe.
