Cops in the Community
A soggy spring held on tightly even as the calendar switched from May to June, but that didn’t deter Chicago residents from getting active in their neighborhoods for fun and good causes. Right beside them were Chicago’s finest, officers at the ready to engage in community-building activities and meaningful expressions of togetherness.
12th District
Make-A-Wish
Chicago Police Officers did their part to make it a spe- cial Make-A-Wish day for one youngster, who pro- tected the city as Galacto the superhero during a crime-fighting spree that took the boy around the city and lakefront.
Officers from the 20th Dis- trict proved to be popular during a beautiful day at the Swedish Covenant Hospital Summer Social. The officers handed out 500 burglary pre- vention checklists, backpacks and plenty of bubbles for the kids.
Memorial Day
Officers in the 12th Dis- trict played a notable role in Operation Clean

Ev- erything capped off with students from St. Mal- achy Catholic School offering a special prayer of safety for all the police in attendance.
20th District
Walk for Peace
The St. John Cantius Catholic Church’s Walk for Peace brought to- gether thousands of Chicagoans in a candlelight procession that traveled down Chicago Avenue for a mile and a half, with police offi- cers accompanying participants along the route. Before stepping off, a few found a moment to share smiles for a photo.
