h isric officers hi a high oe
A life lesson for a young boy in the 14th District was music to the community’s ears on June 8, when Mawi Asgedom encour- aged his son to play his violin on the street to earn money for a video game he wanted.
Pedestrians crossed the street to watch the young violinist and put money in his instrument case. But when Asgedom saw Officers Ricky Soto and Nick Ramirez ap- proaching in full uniform, the father and son thought it could be the end of their street concerto.
“When they approached, I thought these two Chicago Police Officers were about to shut us down,” Asgedom wrote in a Face- book post. “Instead, they gave him $8 and hung out to appreciate the music.”
Soto and Ramirez showed their appreci- ation for the violinist’s hard work and gave a donation that would help him reach his
savings toward a hard-earned video game. This small act of kindness left a mean- ingful impact on the father-son duo, who were pleased to share this experience with
the heroes of their community.
