On Feb. 15, Police Officers David Wat- son and Paul More- no were called to the scene after a child apparently swal- lowed a toy. As they arrived on scene, they were met with the frantic and terri- fied father, who ush- ered them into the house. As they en- tered the home, they
saw blood coming from the child’s nose and imme- diately jumped into action.
Falling back on tried and true training, the officers performed the Heimlich maneuver and the toy flew out of the child’s mouth. They performed one last sweep of the child’s mouth to ensure that nothing more was there, and the child was taken to the hos- pital.
The little girl’s grandmother was even driven to the hospital by the officers. She was so happy to have the officers assist and was delighted with their kindness toward her granddaughter. She was quoted
saying, “The officers were talking to her, calling her ‘Princess’ and telling her, ‘You’re going to be OK, sor- ry you’re going through this.’ It was so compassion- ate. It was hard to believe, you know? They really did save her life.”
It is with great appreciation and pride that the Fraternal Order of Police, Chicago Lodge #7, pres- ents Officers Paul Moreno and David Watson with a Lifesaving Award. d
