The Illinois legislature is continuing with the spring session and is scheduled to adjourn on May 31. Once again, an interesting budget discussion lies ahead. While the Demo-
success this year on several pension issues being discussed in the General Assembly. Also, there are several proposed bills that we oppose, and we will continue to work against
them with the legislature.
On the political side of Springfield, there continues
to be much intrigue in this election year. Republican State Senator Sam McCann from the Springfield area has announced that he will seek to run for governor on the Conservative Party ticket. He has had a tumul- tuous relationship with his fellow Republican, Governor Bruce Rauner. While Senator McCann supports labor issues, he is a conservative on issues such as abortion, guns and other social issues. This entry into the race does not look like it will be good for Governor Rauner’s re-election prospects in what will likely be the most expensive gubernatorial race in the country.     crats and Republicans in the House and Senate are meeting to discuss budget is- sues, it is not a sure thing as to whether they will be able to agree on a budget.
Several police issues are part of the legislative process. Several bills that we are
supporting have passed out of the first chamber this month. Once again, our efforts are successful so far, but there is still a month of negotiations ahead. One of our bills (SB3509), sponsored by Senator Bill Cunningham, has passed the Sen- ate. It would end the policy of ticket quotas in Chicago. The bill now moves to the House, with Representative Fran Hur- ley serving as the lead sponsor. In addition, we hope to have
