Recent dedications, Masses and vigils well attended
I recently attended an event at Catholic Chari- ties on LaSalle Street, where a new flagpole and plaza were dedicated to Commander Paul Bauer. Hundreds of folks participated in
meal. RSVP by Nov. 29 to Chaplain Kimberly Lewis-Davis at 312-771-6638. Again, space is limited.
the ceremony, including Officer Tom Baker (018), Commander Dan O’Shea (018) and Monsignor Michael Boland (president and CEO of Catholic Charities of Chicago), pic- tured here with me.
Thanks to all who attended September’s Candlelight Vigil at Soldier Field. It was a wonderful way to remember the 582 Chi- cago Police Officers who have died over the years in the line of duty.
Thanks also to the many who attended Blue Masses at Res- urrection, St. Ita, St. Mary of Perpetual Help and St. Florian parishes. On more than one occasion, the large congregations offered standing ovations to our officers. It is clear that the vast majority of good people out there truly appreciate the work that our officers do and the sacrifices they make.
There will be another Blue Mass on Sunday, Nov. 4 at 10 a.m. at St. Thecla Parish, 6725 W. Devon Ave. Also, for those planning ahead, St. Barnabas in Beverly will again host us for its annu- al Blue Mass on Sunday, Feb. 3 at 10 a.m. No uniform needed; come as you are.
Elections are approaching, so I’d like once again to mention one of our own members, Sergeant Ammie Kessem, who is run- ning for state representative in the 19th legislative district. Her no-nonsense philosophy and commonsense beliefs include lower income and property taxes, as well as a plan for safer neighborhoods. Ammie, who has been on the job since 1999, remains a member of Lodge 7. She would be grateful for your vote. Learn more at www.ammiefor19.com.
On election day, Tuesday, Nov. 6, Pizano’s in the south loop will host our next Upper Room Club gathering. For more infor- mation, please visit our website.
The Chaplains Section will host a spin class for CPD mem- bers only. The class will be held on Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 22, from 9-9:45 a.m. at Blazin’ Cycle, 10227 S. Western Ave. RSVP by Oct. 25 to Chaplain Kimberly Lewis-Davis at 312-771- 6638. Space is limited, so sign up soon to burn off the calories you’ll be consuming that same afternoon. We also have a spe- cial Thanksgiving Mass that morning at 10 a.m. at Mercy Home for Boys and Girls (1140 W. Jackson Blvd.).
The Chaplains Section will host a Kids’ Cooking Class for CPD youth ages 10 to 14. Your kids can join us on Dec. 27 from 10-11 a.m. at The Kids’ Table, 2337 W. North Ave. They will learn how to make healthy meal choices and prepare one delicious
