Luncheon cruise is solid ‘Gold’
In May, we enjoyed a wonderful day aboard the Spirit of Chicago with our Gold Star Fam- ilies. This 21st annual luncheon cruise was sponsored through the generosity of our Police Chaplains Ministry supporters. On behalf of all who have lost a loved one in the line of duty, we thank you. In the June 8 Chicago Tribune’s “Health and Family” section, an article was featured, entitled “Going to church good for longevity.” The opening sentence states, “Reli- gious services aren’t just good for your soul; they may be good for your physical health.” The article cited statistics, mostly among Catholic and Protestant communities, showing those who regularly practice their faith are found to be in better physical health than those who do not.
That said, I’d like to remind you, as you perform God’s work on the streets, that you might benefit from wor- shipping God on your own time, in the way you choose. We celebrate our regular police Mass every second and fourth Sunday of the month at 11 a.m. at Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, located at 1140 W. Jackson Blvd. No mat- ter your faith tradition, you are most welcome to attend. On-duty worshippers, you’ll be out as usual in less than 30 minutes.
On July 14, O’Brien’s Restaurant at North and Wells in Old Town is generously hosting a fundraiser: Happy Hour for the Police Chaplains Ministry. A $50 entry fee guaran- tees you unlimited food and drinks from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Your son, Billy
P.S. Dad, none of the above is true. I’m over at Ja-
son’s house. I just wanted to remind you that there are worse things in life than the school report that’s on the kitchen table. Call when it is safe for me to come home!” LOL.

The Brotherhood For The Fallen is a non-profit orga-
nization founded by department members more than six years ago to represent CPD at line-of-duty funerals across North America, as well as to support each fallen hero’s family. In partnership with Brownells Firearms, they are hosting an inaugural training conference Sept. 25 to 27 in Johnston, Iowa. In keeping with one of their goals – helping to educate LEOs – instruction will include armorers’ classes, long and short-range rifle use, tactical pistol training, first aid, education on explosives and de- fensive tactics. I am honored to have been invited to pres- ent a piece on the God-ordained work of law enforcers during this conference. I hope to see you there! For more information, click the Brotherhood’s link on our website’s “links” page.
After a recent robbery call, District 12 officers Jeff Kriv and Ross Alexander pulled Chaplain Bob Montelongo and me aside for a photo opp. Keep up the great work, Ross and Jeff – and all your brothers and sisters!
May God continue to bless and keep safe all of our members! d

On behalf of all the chaplains, may G-d bless you and keep you in His loving care. Amen. d
