ing in distress like a cop deals with, but something that has a powerful impact on anybody’s life.
“Buying a car is the second biggest purchase anybody makes, so let’s face it, nobody wants to be in the dealer- ship,” Marino explains. “For the most part you treat cus- tomers right, give them a fair price and they keep com- ing back. You can throw a stone and hit another Chrysler dealer on this block, so we have to go above and beyond. When you come in you are greeted by the owner. When your cars needs service, we fix it. We try to treat every- body great.”
Notice the “we” in Marino’s rhetoric. The dealership is built on a team approach, and nobody is above answering phones or cleaning a urinal, as Marino did the other day perhaps in a throwback to his St. John’s days. A lot of the Marino employees have been with the dealership since its inception, including those from his family – his sister, his cousins and others who enhance the family way that is so much a part of the business practice.
As a result, the structure, discipline and respect runs deep in the dealership. And that, he says, also manifests in the desire to support first responders and the differ- ence they make in the community. Perhaps that’s addi- tional advice that came up in some of Tony’s conversa- tions with Uncle Ken.
“I asked him what can I do support the cause,” Tony says. “Treat everybody right; that’s all he really asks. Just go above and beyond to serve them. And we try to do that every day.” d
Tony Marino, President of Marino Chrysler Jeep Dodge, has made serving Chicago’s real-life heroes one of the priorities at his dealership on the north side of Chicago.
