            day since she’s received a call, a text or an email from a sister or brother. Her daughters, Alejandra and Lilliana, extol how great this day is for Mom. Alejandra notes, “She makes so many sacri- fices for us,” while Lilliana adds, “She deserves the best.”
And a culmination comes at the home of Veronica Murillo, who had to take a retirement after being beaten by an offend- er high on PCP in October 2016. Murillo is still recovering from brain and leg injuries. She says the pain is still overwhelming on some days. But not today. “Today reminds me that it’s going to be OK,” she says as she wipes a tear away.

Before the caravan hits the road on day, a full day of emo- tion has filled the 8th District where the operation has mus- tered Sunday morning. In addition to honoring four families of deployed officers, the children of 25th District Officer Andres Cuenca, who was shot in the neck when executing a search war- rant in March 2019, and 17th District Officer Marlon Cajucom, who was shot in the head pursing a bank robber holding a hos- tage, get to see Santa.
