CNN honors 20-year Department veteran for making the future brighter for kids

From a modest basement room at Park- way Gardens a decade ago, to standing before a national television audience in December, Jennifer Maddox always speaks passionately of her journey as a Chicago Police Officer trying to do more for the children of her community.
But then something magical happens and Maddox, a two-decade CPD veteran, finds herself watching as Chicago rapper/ poet/community activist Common tells the world about her during the CNN He- roes: An All-Star Tribute television special.
Common gave a shout-out to the Gar- dens, where Maddox grew up during an era when the sound of kids playing and “the poetry of a fierce round of double Dutch”
