Holiday happenings
Chicago Police Officers spend countless hours in the community throughout the year, but those opportunities to connect with residents, especially with children, seem a little brighter during the holiday season. From toy drives and Shop with a Cop adventures, to parties and kind gestures which exemplify the Christmas spirit, officers gave their time and money to make the most special time of year a little brighter for Chicagoans of all ages. d
The nice list was over owing at Target during the 5th District’s Shop with a Cop event, as evidenced by youngsters lling up carts with toys and cloth- ing with the help of o cers. Several members of the 5th also helped lift the spirits of a ve-year-old boy by giving him an o cial escort to Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, where he was scheduled to receive a liver transplant.
Young Chicago Cubs star Kyle Schwarber played Santa in early December, when he stopped by the 19th District not only to wrap a few gifts but also to present a $25,000 donation to the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation from his Neighborhood Heroes charity.

Speaking of lling up carts, 14th District o cers and a legion of kids took over the aisles of their local Target store for its version of Shop with a Cop. The festivities continued as o cers helped with the 4th annual Yates School Christmas Toy giveaway for students in pre-kindergarten through third grade.
O cers and Gold Star families came together at Chicago Police Headquar- ters on Dec. 14 for the o cial lighting of the department’s Christmas tree. Many attendees also spent time preparing gifts for domestic violence vic- tims and their children.
Some of the 11th District’s smallest resi- dents bene ted from a CAPS toy drive in support of the Marshall High School day care facility.
O cer Edgar Brown jumped into the mix at the neighbor- hood Bargains in a Box, where he helped the business pack approximately 4,000 bags of toys destined for distribution to children in need across the City.
