Cops in the Community
The month of May means the school year is winding down and the opportunities to get outside continue to increase. As usual, Chicago Police Officers were right there to support students and neighbors in the classroom and at local events, and the community certainly showed its appreciation in a variety of ways.

In the 20th District, officers helped with a special day at St. Hilary School, where they read to kinder- garteners and first graders. They even stuck around as the book’s author joined the fun via Zoom to chat with the kids.
A sure sign of warmer weather is the good old community cook- out. Officers in the 24th District managed the grill, posed for pictures and generally had some fun with res- idents at Willye B. White Park in the Rogers Park com- munity on May 23.
Even when
couldn’t be in the class- room, officers didn’t stay away. The 9th District’s virtual Officer Friendly proved that as he con- nected with second and third graders from Fulton School in early May.

Staff and students at Our Lady of Guadalupe School showed their gratitude for officers on the Southeast Side in May by hosting an appre- ciation lunch. Officers enjoyed a variety of food, including tamales and rice, while taking a break in the school cafeteria.
