Gathering in prayer, if not in person
As you know, the 88th annual St. Jude Po- lice March should have taken place in May. Like thousands of others, I truly missed this tradition — a wonderful opportunity
to honor our fallen.
While the St. Jude League and the Police
Chaplains Ministry are entirely different entities, we work well together. May God sus- tain the St. Jude League in its ministry...and God bless our fallen officers and their families.
Due to current circumstances, Police Chaplains Ministry was also forced to cancel our annual Gold Star Families lun- cheon cruise aboard the Spirit of Chicago at Navy Pier. We’ll make up for it somehow when normalcy returns, proving that we never forget.
Sadly, we must also forgo one of our favorite traditions: the Father’s Day Mass at Gold Star Families Memorial and Park. In lieu of this Mass, please remember in your prayers all our father figures.
While we have been unable to gather in person to honor our almost 600 deceased CPD heroes, I encourage you to join me in prayer and remembrance:
Eternal rest grant unto them, oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
Now for some good news: despite current circumstances, every Friday at 1 p.m., the Chaplains Section continues to facilitate a Bible study/prayer/faith-sharing group at the po- lice academy. No matter one’s faith tradition, all are welcome at these brief Christian-based gatherings. As with our other gatherings, we practice social distancing.
Similarly, although more intimate in size, a non-denom-

may ask you to do something really big.
Five: Don’t listen to critics; just get on with the job
that needs to be done.
Six: Build your future on high ground.
Seven: For safety’s sake, travel in pairs.
Eight: Speed isn’t always an advantage. The snails
were on board with the cheetahs.
Nine: When you’re stressed, float awhile.
Ten: Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs, and
the Titanic by professionals.
Eleven: No matter the storm, when you are with
God, there’s always a rainbow waiting.
May G-d keep you healthy and safe, today and always. Should you need a shoulder to lean on or an ear to listen, please do not hesitate to give us a call.

inational Christian prayer opportunity is offered every Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the multi-purpose room at Public Safety Headquarters. And Muslim (Jumma) prayers are offered every Friday at 1 p.m. in room 202 of the academy. If you’d like more information about these gatherings, please email joseph.jackson@chica- gopolice.org, kimberly.lewisdavis@chicagopolice.org,
or hysni.selenica@chicagopolice.org.
Chaplain Joe Jackson is also organizing a regular Biking with the Chaplains trip to different locations throughout the city and surrounding area. Let’s explore God’s beautiful cre- ation while getting some fresh air and enjoying each other’s company. For scheduling information, or if you have a sug- gested bike path, please email joseph.jackson@chicagopo- lice.org.
Finally, on July 17, 1970, Sergeant James L. Severin and Officer Anthony N. Rizzato were killed by sniper fire outside Cabrini Green. As of now, a 50th anniversary memorial trib- ute will be held at the 18th District to honor these two heroes on Saturday, July 18 at 11 a.m. Assuming our right to gather is restored by then, I hope to see you there.
In the meantime, may God bless you and keep you safe!
