bor law.
But I believe my move toward getting directly involved
in Lodge representation began at SWAT in 2012 as the Lodge approached negotiations for the 2012 contract. At that time, I came to believe that my SWAT unit was not being adequately represented. So I reached out to the Lodge with my concerns and, suddenly, I found myself serving as our unit rep. As unit rep, I then formed a plan to file a lawsuit against the City, arguing that we were being denied overtime wages. This lawsuit is still pending, but I am confident we will prevail.
That wasn’t all.
Soon followed my second FLSA lawsuit on behalf of the members affected by the loss of retro overtime pay in the current contract. On March 27, 3,464 checks were issued to all class members in the case. Those checks become void on July 25. At present, 83.4% of all settlement funds have been paid out to officers. If you still have a check, whatever the amount you received, please cash that check. Don’t let the City off the hook.
As I start my assignment as field rep for the Lodge, I’d like to thank President Graham and the Board for allowing me the opportunity to represent the Lodge in fighting on behalf of the brothers and sisters of Lodge 7. Additionally, I would like to congratulate those who won their elections and thank all those who participated.
Finally, I would also like to thank all those who came out and voted in this election. Your voices were heard.d
