Remembering the fallen in May
We just celebrated our 85th Annual St. Jude March. This is a proud tradition of the Chi- cago Police Department and a wonder-
ful way to prayerfully remember those
St. Juliana Parish (7201 N. Oketo, Edison Park) invited me to celebrate a Blue Mass there on June 4 at 11 a.m. Active or retired, please join us as we pray for all our first responders! Uniforms are welcome but not
who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
May is traditionally the month during which we do just that: go out of our way
to memorialize our fallen officers. Thank you to the many members who are representing our department this month at memorial services in Washington, D.C. and Springfield.
It is totally fitting that later this month, the Police Chaplains Ministry will host our beloved Gold Star Families on our 22nd annual lun- cheon cruise aboard the Spirit of Chicago. This outing reminds our esteemed guests that their loved ones who
died in the line of duty are never forgotten.
Your generous support of the Police Chaplains Minis-
try, a 501(c)(3) organization, makes these outings possi- ble...so thank you to all our supporters. If you would like to contribute, please visit our website at www.chicagop- cm.org.
Also during the month of May, Christians around the world remember our Bless- ed Mother, Mary, the woman who bore Jesus Christ. How fitting that we should hon- or (not “deify” or “worship”) this young Jewish heroine. If you would like a police-blue rosary free of charge, please
email Chaplain Bob Montelongo (from our website’s “Meet Your Chaplains” page), and he’ll be happy to send you one.

About that time, Dad turned off the TV and announced to no one in particular, “I’m going to bed.”
And he did...without another thought (sounds just like me, LOL).
necessary.
In addition to our regular second- and
fourth-Sunday Masses, next month (as in years past) we celebrate a special Father’s Day Mass at Gold
Star Memorial and Park
at 10 a.m. on June 18. Be-
ing an outdoor venue, if
the weather looks ques-
tionable, please call 773-
550-2369 that morning to
make sure the Mass is on.
You are welcome to bring
folding chairs or a blanket...and even a picnic lunch for after Mass.
The inaugural Jacob Manning Schmitz Golf Outing is set for July 22, with a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m. The son of retired Deputy Chief Leo Schmitz, Jake passed away last year after a courageous battle with leukemia. Pro- ceeds from this outing will fund a scholarship set up in Jake’s name at Brother Rice High School. Whether you’re an avid or amateur golfer, you can have a good time while supporting a great cause. For more information, please contact Jim O’Grady at 312-296-1157.
Plans for the Police Married Couples’ Retreat are com- ing along, with the theme of “Eight Habits of a Success- ful Marriage.” Active or retired, if you would like to learn tools proven to strengthen individuals and relationships, join us on Sweetest Day weekend (Oct. 20-22) at a resort and spa in nearby Itasca. A $550 donation per couple cov- ers lodging, food and retreat curriculum. Please contact Chaplain Kimberly Lewis-Davis to reserve your spot at 312-771-6638 or kimberly.lewisdavis@chicagopolice.org.
God bless you and keep you safe! d

So if you are blessed with having a mom in your life, please take a moment, give her a call and tell her how much she means to you and how special she is.
On behalf of all of your Chaplains, May G-d bless you, keep you safe and always keep you in His loving care.
Should you need a shoulder to lean on or perhaps have some humor to share, please do not hesitate to give us a call.
