ThirdVice President’s Report
Coming together for our brothers and sisters in need
During the past few weeks, we have seen the destruction caused by two major hurricanes in two very different locations in our country, as well as another that hit Puerto Rico and, of course, the tragic shooting in Las Vegas. When these tragedies strike the United States, there never seems to be any hesitation by Americans to help other Americans.
What amazes me the most is the persever- ance of America’s law enforcement officers who perform their duties, as they were trained, but still suffer the devastating effects at home. These heroes leave their loved
ones, in such a difficult time, to help others. It’s what we do. The media shows the destruction repeatedly. They inter- view victims to get the best ratings, but who interviews the Police Officers? Who recognizes their personal sacrifices? Not only do these brave Police Officers help to rescue peo- ple and protect property without hesitation, but once their shifts are finally over, they must return home to the same disaster that they’ve been working against all tour. Many of these officers lost everything during these horrific events,
and yet they continue to help people every day. Who helps them?
At the Fraternal Order of Police National Conference held in Nashville in August, the cumulative group of delegates pledged more than $100,000 for assistance to the Police Officers in Houston. Did this receive any media attention? We as Police Officers came together to help each other, as I am sure we will do for the Police Officers and their families in Florida and beyond. Both affected areas need different items. If you are interested in donating to either or both ar- eas, please do so. It’s what we do for our brothers and sisters.
If you are interested in making a monetary donation through the National Fraternal Order of Police, you can do so by texting your donation amount in the message block to 615-640-1317. You will receive a text to complete your reg- istration and enter your credit card information. Once this is set up, you can donate just by texting your amount to the above number. Donations are tax-deductible, and a receipt will be sent to your email. One hundred percent of donations go to law enforcement officers affected by natural disasters.
Stay safe! d
